JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Jakartans are advised to be more cautious of rape cases on wheels recently. "We asked people to be more cautious especially women who usually go home at night alone," advised Deputy of Traffic for South Jakarta Police Resort Commisioner Sungkono

"For those who take public transportations, please pay more attention to the identification of cars that you are going to get on including the license plate numbers. Don't decide to get on if you get suspicious. It's better not to go out of house all alone," stressed him.

Rape cases on public transportations in Jakarta have increased lately. A university student of Bina Nusantara, Livia Pavita Soelistio (22), was killed and raped by four persons alternately after the driver of public transportation she took started the kidnap ordeal of her last month.

The most recent case happened to a woman named with the initial RS (27) on Sept. 1. It started when the lady took a minibus of Kopaja P19 with the route of Tanah Abang-Ragunan at 00.30 a.m.

She got off in Cilandak to continue her trip to Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta. Keeping eyes on a woman waiting in vain for public transportation, four rapists who were on a public minivan, mikrolet D02 (with the route of Ciputat-Pondok Labu), took the advantage of situation by offering to take her to her destination, Pasar Rebo.

"Seeing no other public transportations passing, she found no other choice besides taking it eventhough she was not supposed to do it," said Sungkono.

"Her mouth was gagged, her legs and hands were tied," added Sungkono.

One of them took turns becoming the driver while the others raped her alternately. The ordeal occured when the public transport went around the areas of Trakindo through Cilandak. Sabrina Asril
