PALEMBANG, KOMPAS.com - The plan to build a new House of Representatives (DPR) building will be studied by a technical team before a final decision is made. House Speaker Marzuki Alie made the statement when asked following a breaking the fast of the South Sumatra Democratic Party cadres in Palembang on Tuesday. He said that actually the construction of a new DPR building has no problem, but since the project has not been familiarized to the public properly, various public opinions arose. He also said that the project better be postponed first, and let the secretary general takes care of it, instead of the DPR, which will only use it.
"The project will be realized by the secretary general along with the public works ministry and I have therefore asked for a postponement of the tender, to renew the study," he aid.
The building is a symbol of the state, a symbol of democracy, and it would not be too luxuriously looking, but it will be grand looking. Later he will ask the secretary general to report the outcome of the study to the DPR leadership, he said.
While, lawmaker of The Greater Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party, A Muzani, recommended the plan was supposed to be abandoned. Muzani mentioned the plan should be canceled as there was a rising issue on the movement of capital city of Indonesia.
According to him, the budget of plan taking Rp1.6 trillion could be allocated for people's welfare post. "Gerindra officiially urge the plan to be abandoned," said Muzani in Jakarta, Tuesday, as quoted by Kompas. (Antara/Kompas/JIM)
