BATAM, KOMPAS.com - Thousands of workers of  PT Drydocks World Graha shipyard ran amok and burnt their office, merchandise warehouse and 27 cars. That took place at Tanjung Uncang area, Batam, on Thursday.

According to KOMPAS sources, a harrasment statement mentioned by an Indian supervisor of the company has sparked the amok. He said that Indonesians were stupid when he had a routine briefing with 20 employees of piping section at 8 a.m.

There is no confirmation on details of how it turned into a riot. The statement had so widely spread hatred among 8,000 workers including indonesian supervisors 30 minutes later that the riot was inevitable.

Local police and military could not do much to control it as the workers outnumbered their personnels. However, the riot could be controlled as detructions found at several places around the shipyard. The management of the company has not given any statement on the incident.
