JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A top Golkar Party functionary denied here Thursday the party leadership had ever discussed a scenario to remove Vice President Boediono from his post for his alleged involvemnt in the Bank Century scandal.
"There have never been preparations for Boediono’s replacement, our thought has never gone in that direction," chairman of the Golkar Party’s advisory board Akbar Tandjung said.
He said his party had never discussed a plan to impeach the vice president, only how to make the law enforcement agencies take steps to follow up the House Bank Century Inquiry Committee’s conlusions on the bank’s bailout scandal, and the House to monitor the law enforcing agencies’ follow-up steps.
"So we did not discuss how the vice president could be replaced but how Golkar should respond to the people’s aspiration to see the Bank Century case settled conclusively," Akbar, a former House speaker, said.
He said now that the House Bank Century Inquiry Committee had finished its task, the House should see to it that the committee’s recommendations were followed up by the relevant instititions. The general public’s interest also required the case’s conclusive settlement, he added.
