JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — Chief Detective Comr. Gen. Ito Sumardi stated that the police are still trying to locate the assumed bomb assembled by Dulmatin and his group.
"It's assumed that a bomb has been assembled because the police have found its remote control trigger," stated Ito at the gathering for the joint training between the National Police and the Armed Force at the National Monument, Jakarta, Thursday.
"We are trying to locate where the explosive or bomb is, because the trigger has been found."
It's estimated that the bomb is quite powerful. Dulmatin, together with Ali Imran (imprisoned for life) and Dr. Azahari (shot dead at Batu, East Java, 2005), assembled the Bali bomb in 2002 that killed 202 people and injured hundreds of others.
Regarding the firearms owned by the group, Ito commented that the police have confiscated seven revolvers, and guns of the following types: FN, AK 47, and M16. "They could've had more firearms. The suspects apprehended won't reveal the source of the firearms."
Ito stated that the weapons came from abroad and were smuggled in small components. "Weapons can be assembled here. The origins could be from anywhere. We're also trying to determine where they got weapons."
According to Ito, the police are also trying to discern the origin of the 7,000 confiscated bullets. The bullets are estimated to have come from abroad, but some are from within the state.
"Many of the bullets seem old or seem to have been buried for a long time. They could be from left-overs after the Aceh conflict. The bullets can be from anywhere."
Ito stated that Dulmatin's group who had military training in Aceh didnt have a special trainer, but the trainer(s) probably came from among themselves. "They trained by sharing experiences. Some of them were volunteers who got military training in the Philippines and Afghanistan."
Though Ito couldn't comment yet about the terrorist group's funding, but the National Police and the Financial Transaction Analysis and Report Center are looking into the matter. The police have confiscated evidences of fund transfers, for rupiah and other currencies, at the raid location in Pamulang. (Abi/Antara/C17-09)
