JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The value of rupiah compared with USD at the Jakarta spot market, Wednesday, strengthens by 20 points, after the Statistics Indonesia (BPS) announced positive reports for November 2009, with 0.03 percent deflation, so that the inflation for January-November of the calendar year is only 2.45 percent.
The exchange value of rupiah on USD has gone up to Rp 9,420 - Rp. 9,435 per USD, compared to the closing yesterday which was at Rp. 9,440 - Rp. 9,455.
The director of retail banking for PT Bank Mega Tbk., Kostaman Thayib, Jakarta, Wednesday, said that the increase for rupiah is still small so that rupiah's position is still above Rp. 9,400 per USD. "Rupiah is expected to move up this afternoon so that it will be closer to Rp. 9,400 per USD."
He is optimistic that rupiah will continue to rise close to Rp. 9,300 per USD by the end of the year, especially after the report that China, India, and Indonesia are the leading Asian countries that stimulate the global economy to grow faster. "Thus the government must tidy up the infrastructures faster so the real sector can run smoothly."
He believes that Indonesia can overcome the global crisis and is a potential market for foreign investors to channel their funds into the domestic market. "Thus the Indonesian economy in the future can have a better growth rate at around 5.2 to 5.3 percent."
Because of all that rupiah has a good chance to continue rising. "The rise on rupiah is also supported by the calming of the Dubai World case that was previously thought to have a global effect." (Edj/C17-09)
