JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Two Indonesian Climate Champion delegates will start their campaign on climate change, the Green Journey, in Copenhagen, Denmark, Wednesday. They will depart to London, England, before going to Denmark by an environment-friendly train.
As reported previously, the two International Climate Champion (ICC) representatives from the British Council will convey messages in facing the climate change at the COP15 summit in Copenhagen, from December 7 to 18, 2009. The two representatives are Goris Mustaqim (26) and Inggried Dwi Wedhaswary (28).
Goris was chosen for his efforts to urge the use of alternative energy to produce aromatic oils for 4,000 fragrant-root farmers in Garut, West Java. Inggried is a journalist from Yogyakarta who actively writes about environment issues in Kompas.com.
Both of them will meet the other 200 ICC delegates from 40 countries and travel from Brussels, Belgium, to Copenhagen by the Climate Express low-carbon train. On the way, the ICC delegates will discuss their ideas in facing the climate change in their respective countries.
"Our mission is to increase the awareness among youths regarding climate change and bring their voice to the COP15," said Goris in a presentation at the British Council office, Tuesday.
"We want to show that Indonesia has an important role in facing climate change. Climate issues cannot be solved alone," added Inggried.
Their presentation, titled "From Bali to Copenhagen", will also be stated by Goris and Inggried before the other participants. They bring messages from Indonesians sent through Kompas.com or other social network sites such as Facebook. (Laksono Hari Wiwoho/C17-09)
