JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — House of Representative (DPR) Deputy Speaker Pramono Anung said that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's speech regarding the recommendation from Team-8, the independent fact finding team for the Bibit-Chandra case, is unclear. This causes prolonged polemic. He stated this to journalists, Wednesday, at the DPR building, Jakarta.
According to him, the 20 minute speech was far from what the people expected and it showed the president's indecisivenes. The 14 day delay of the Attorney General's Office (AGO) to prosecute the suspected case of extortion, bribery, and abuse of power of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy chairman (non-active) Chandra M.
Hamzah shows that indecisiveness is also happening in that law enforcement institution. "We hope that the law enforcement institutions, such as the KPK, police, and AGO, wouldn't interpret the situation by their own judgement and view separately."
Pramono who's also the Secretary General of PDI-P party continued, "I think Team-8's recommendation is clear. But it's just a matter of the president's political decisiveness and will, whether he would do it or not. If the matter is debated again, I'm sure everyone will have different perceptions."
He emphasized that the president's decisiveness is crucial. Right now, people who don't know the mattter are also talking about it so this causes a bias.
The senior politicians are worried that if this goes on then the government's energy for the last 30 days have been spent for counterproductive things.
However a different opinin was stated by the DPR chief Marzuki Alie, who is also the General Secretary of the Democrat party. "The sign from the president is clear. The Bibit-Chandra case is hard to prove legally. Thus if the suspects can't be given to court then the law enforcer must speak for justice. The president can't just instruct the National Police and AGO to issue SP3 (a letter to freeze investigation) and SKPP (letter to stop prosecution)." (Hindra Liu/C17-09)
