JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The task of the fact finding Team of Eight formed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is almost finished after having collected information from various sources for about a week. Anises Baswedan, one of the Team’s members, said at the Presidential Advisory Board office here on Sunday that the Team of Eight has had a glimpse about whether the legal case of suspended Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputies Chandra Hamzah and Bibit was engineered or not.
"We have had a clear picture and therefore our task in near final," Anies Baswedan said, adding that the Team of Eight got the indication after staging the case of Bibit and Chandra with the Police and Attorney Genral Offic on Saturday night. After staging the case, the Team of Eight at a press conference said the legal case of Bibit and Chandra did not have sufficient evidence.
Baswedan said the Team of Eight on Monday would stage an internal meeting to arrange tentative evaluation of Bibit and Chandra’s legal case. The evaluation accompanied with tentative recommendation would be submitted to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono so that the head of state could take strategic measures.
Meanwhile, the Teams other member, Todung Mulya Lubis, said the Team would submit the tentative recommendation to the president after witnessing the dynamic response from the public to the legal case of Bibit and Chandra. "I think the case needs to be settled immediately because protest rallies have been staged in Surabaya, Bandung, Medan, and in some other cities. And I think the public also wants to see an early solution to the case and therefore we should not be too slow in dealing with it," Todung Mulya Lubis said.
Todung said the people had launched protests in many different places because they were not satisfied with the settlement of the Bibit and Chandra legal case. Therefore, he added, the case was a serious matter and must not be ignored any further.
