JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Presidential candidate with running number two, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono believed that Law No.13/2003 regarding manpower affairs should not be too hastily revised. Yudhohono, who is also the incumbent president disclosed the issue when answering the moderator’s question during the second round of presidential debate held by the General Elections Commission (KPU) in Jakarta on Thursday night.
"A solution is that we do not want to set low wages for labors ... what we need to increase is efficiency and productivity, so I think we do not need to hastily revise the Law on manpower," he said. The tripartite institution which handled many cases have been able to settle a number of disagreements between employers and workers, Yudhoyono said.
"In Batam, for example we found a moderate level of labor wages ... and industry is growing well. That’s why we wish to keep it going on in the future," he said while stressing the need for a comprehensive solution which involves the all employers and labors. The second round of presidential debate carried the theme "Unemployment and Poverty Alleviation," was moderated by Aviliani, an economist.
Aside from Yudhoyono, two other candidates in the debate were Megawati Soekarnoputri and Jusuf Kalla (JK). Three presidential and vice presidential tickets who will compete in the upcoming polls are Jusuf Kalla and Wiranto, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who pairs with Boediono, an economist, and former president Megawati Soekarnoputri who pairs with retired general Prabowo Subianto.
The General Elections Commission (KPU) has set schedules for out-door campaigning from June 11 to July 4, 2009, and the presidential elections will be held on July 8, 2009. KPU would need around Rp4 trillion to hold a second round of the upcoming presidential election, KPU Secretary General Suripto Bambang Setyadi said recently.
